New Caledonia is a popular honeymoon destination<\/a><\/span>. One of the remote islands, Ouv\u00e9a Island, became well known in Japan after it was the settling in the 1984 movie ” The Island Closest to Heaven”. Unfortunately, we had only 4 hours to check out this new location. Since we didn’t have enough time to visit “the island closest to heaven”, we will instead explore the main island called Grande-Terre, an island relatively close to heaven. \u25c6Where is New Caledonia?<\/span><\/h3>\n

New Caledonia is located about 7,000 km southeast of Japan and north of New Zealand. It’s an overseas territory belonging to France. The main island is called Grande Terre and the surrounding islands include the Isle of Pines, Lifou Island, Mar\u00e9 Island and Ouv\u00e9a Island. It has an area of 19,110km2 and the population is about 270,000 (as of 2016). The capital is Noum\u00e9a on the main island of Grande Terre. The local currency is the Pacific franc (CFP). The official language is French and there is a +2-hour time difference with Japan.
