The name &#8220;Olaf&#8221; reminds me of the cheerful snowman from the Disney movie &#8220;Frozen,&#8221; which was loosely based on the fairy tale \u201cThe Snow Queen\u201d by Danish author, Hans Christian Anderson., But, I thought, would Olaf, who so longed for summer, come to this summer festival? I am hoping the Faroe Islands is a fairy tale world where I can meet beautiful women like Anna and Elsa. On the 18th stop of the Domain Island Tour, I visited the Faroe Islands; last paradise of unspoiled natural attractions in Europe.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/islanddomains.earth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/26.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3382 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/islanddomains.earth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/26-333x500.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"333\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/islanddomains.earth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/26-333x500.jpg 333w, https:\/\/islanddomains.earth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/26-768x1152.jpg 768w, https:\/\/islanddomains.earth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/26-682x1023.jpg 682w, https:\/\/islanddomains.earth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/26.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 333px) 100vw, 333px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>\u25c6Where are the Faroe Islands?<\/h3>\n<p>The Faroe Islands, an archipelago of 18 islands, is a territory of the Kingdom of Denmark, located between Iceland and Norway. Of the 18 islands, 17 are inhabited and one is uninhabited. Out of a population of about 50,000, 19,000 people live in the capital T\u00f3rshavn. The official language of the Faroe Islands is Faroese.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/d\/embed?mid=1tvRn-IiNZaW06cHlzY9yxK_ftMI6E5hY\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The currency used is the \u201cFaroese kr\u00f3na\u201d, and one Faroese kr\u00f3na (hereinafter \u201ckr.\u201d) is about 16 yen (as of November 2019). The exchange rate is the same as the Danish kr\u00f3na, and the Danish kr\u00f3na can also be used in the Faroe Islands. The only difference is the banknote design. Banknotes with motifs of nature and animals from the Faroe Islands are Faroese kr\u00f3na. For many Nordic people, this is a place to go and enjoy nature. A man I talked to at the airport said he was travelling from Norway. I was surprised at how beautiful V\u00e1gar Airport was, especially for an island airport.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/islanddomains.earth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-3359\" src=\"https:\/\/islanddomains.earth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/3-500x333.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" srcset=\"https:\/\/islanddomains.earth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/3-500x333.jpg 500w, https:\/\/islanddomains.earth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/3-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/islanddomains.earth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/3-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/islanddomains.earth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/3.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It was also quite crowded when we arrived. As you can see from the timetable, there are not very many buses. Also, the taxi fare is 600kr (about 10,000 yen), so I recommend rent-a-car. The road to T\u00f3rshavn is scattered with pastures, crisscrossed with small rivers.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/islanddomains.earth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/5.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-3361\" src=\"https:\/\/islanddomains.earth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/5-500x333.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" srcset=\"https:\/\/islanddomains.earth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/5-500x333.jpg 500w, https:\/\/islanddomains.earth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/5-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/islanddomains.earth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/5-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/islanddomains.earth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/5.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Getting from V\u00e1gar Airport on V\u00e1gar Island to T\u00f3rshavn on Streymoy island requires passing through many undersea tunnels, only passable by car. The solid red lines on the map are the routes that can be driven by car. This particular day, there was a gay pride parade held for LGBT rights, and many people, both young and old, were gathered. Many people may have returned home to the Faroe Islands for the \u00d3lavs\u00f8ka (Saint Olaf&#8217;s day) Festival.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/islanddomains.earth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/7.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-3363\" src=\"https:\/\/islanddomains.earth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/7-500x333.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" srcset=\"https:\/\/islanddomains.earth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/7-500x333.jpg 500w, https:\/\/islanddomains.earth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/7-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/islanddomains.earth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/7-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/islanddomains.earth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/7.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Gay Pride parade is an annual event held just before \u00d3lavs\u00f8ka. Denmark was the first country in the world to introduce same-sex partnerships in 1989, and in 2012 same-sex marriage became possible. The little prankster took away the horizontal bar in the letter &#8220;G&#8221;. There are also houses with rooves thatched with sod. Because of time constraints, we couldn&#8217;t go to Saksun village on Streymoy Island, but it is famous for these turf-rooves.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>\u25c6I Want to Stand on the \u201cMost Picturesque Soccer Field in the World\u201d<\/h3>\n<p>I heard that the Faroe Islands have the \u201cmost picturesque soccer field in the world\u201d. Working from this photo, my search begins. It\u2019s unclear who decided on the &#8220;most picturesque soccer field in the world&#8221;, but I wanted to go and see for myself if the rumors were true. I went by car because there were so many undersea tunnels. Towards the northwestern tip of the island, we&#8217;re headed for a town called Ei\u00f0i, which means &#8220;Isthmus&#8221; in Faroese.<br \/>\nWhen I get there, I see a soccer field.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/islanddomains.earth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/12.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-3368\" src=\"https:\/\/islanddomains.earth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/12-500x333.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" srcset=\"https:\/\/islanddomains.earth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/12-500x333.jpg 500w, https:\/\/islanddomains.earth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/12-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/islanddomains.earth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/12-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/islanddomains.earth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/12.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Approaching it, I can see that it&#8217;s a nice, new soccer field, but there&#8217;s nothing to make it stand out as the &#8220;most picturesque soccer field in the world&#8221;.<br \/>\nWhen I asked the local people, they said to go further on, so I head in that direction.<br \/>\nAs I climbed a gently sloping hill by a cliff, I was sure I was on the right track to the &#8220;most picturesque soccer field in the world&#8221;.<br \/>\nFollowing the directions of the locals in my search for the soccer field, I found a campsite. Drinks in hand, everyone seemed to be friendly and happy to chat. But where is the soccer field I&#8217;ve been looking for?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/islanddomains.earth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/13.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-3369\" src=\"https:\/\/islanddomains.earth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/13-500x333.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" srcset=\"https:\/\/islanddomains.earth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/13-500x333.jpg 500w, https:\/\/islanddomains.earth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/13-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/islanddomains.earth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/13-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/islanddomains.earth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/13.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I went up a small mountain to check out the area from above. There it is! If you look closely, this campsite is the \u201cmost picturesque soccer field in the world\u201d!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/islanddomains.earth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/14.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-3370\" src=\"https:\/\/islanddomains.earth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/14-500x333.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" srcset=\"https:\/\/islanddomains.earth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/14-500x333.jpg 500w, https:\/\/islanddomains.earth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/14-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/islanddomains.earth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/14-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/islanddomains.earth\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/14.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The \u201cworld&#8217;s most picturesque soccer field&#8221; has become the \u201cworld&#8217;s most picturesque campsite&#8221;. Also, I feel like the photographer needed a fair bit of ingenuity to get this shot of the &#8220;most picturesque soccer field in the world&#8221;. I&#8217;m not sure you can call it the &#8220;most picturesque&#8221; when so much effort is needed for the shot. When I asked the locals, they said the name of the former soccer field was &#8220;Eidi Stadium&#8221;. Apparently, it wasn&#8217;t a very good soccer field due to strong winds, so now it has become a campsite for campers. Didn&#8217;t they know about the strong winds before they built it? Nearby, a new soccer field has been built. That&#8217;s what I think anyways. This is an event that many locals look forward to as a time to meet up with old friends. The nature of the Faroe Islands as seen from the boat tour is quite different from what I enjoyed on the hike.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>\u25c6Restaurants and Credit Card Use in the Faroe Islands<\/h3>\n<p>In the Faroe Islands, I found a sushi restaurant called \u201cEtika\u201d that looked very nice. In the food court of V\u00e1gar Airport, Etika has a small stand where they sell take-out. It was so good; I couldn&#8217;t believe I was in an airport.
